Anna Rosenberg interviews Actor/Singer RICHIE ROSATI
Location: New York City

Anna Rosenberg is a freelance writer who writes for various New York City and Los Angeles newspapers and magazines. She recently interviewed Philadelphia born Actor/Recording Artist Richie Rosati at Nells Club in New York City. This interview was conducted on December 9th, 2001 at 12 noon.

TerrysPhoto2.jpg (40117 bytes) Anna: My choice to interview Richie Rosati was due to the consistent press I've noticed he's been receiving in both the acting and recording industry on both the east and west coasts. It seems I can't go to any inducstry location without his name popping up out of someones mouth, so I wanted to meet him. As an actor, Rosati has appeared on two seasons of the ABC TV hit sitcom "Who's The Boss", in shows like "Dynasty", and in many films including a film titled "Home Of Angels".

As a Recording Artist he has had three top forty dance singles air on dance radio stations around the country with his current singles titled "Metropolis" and "Inside Your Love" still airing in heavy rotation.

Driving to Nells to meet Richie in New York City was truly an exciting experience for me since I've been following his career now for the last few years. I have heard of so many stories about him from dj's, record producers, agents, directors, night club owners, of how Richie made his way around New York City and the Hollywood circuit trying everything to make a name for himself, and this increased my interest. He's hung in every night club, paled around with an entourage of folks who wants accompanied the early Madonna, and just about met every industry icon you could name. Today he is more polished, more secure in his field, and currently can be seen daily on various television stations around the world introducing and hosting several tv programs daily.

Anna:         Hello Richie.....First off..... why Nells for this interview?

Richie:      "I guess Anna that Nells to me feels like the center of it all out here. It's where you can find people                from your past, current life, and those coming into your future. It's a great networking place.

Anna:         I was watching the Fox Family Channel just the other night and saw you on one of the reruns of the tv show "Who's The Boss"...what period were you on that show?

Richie:        Well Alyssa Milano's character Sam I believe was in her Sophmore year of High School on the show then...so it was about 3 years before the show went off the air. It was a real pleasure working for Tony Danza and with actresses like Alyssa, Judith Light, and Katherine Helmund.

Anna:         How did you get on a show like that? I'm sure so many newcomers would like to know?

Richie:       I was living in Hollywood and my agent got a call for a New York type of teen for the show. I auditioned for a role and got it.....then got called back a few weeks later to appear on more episodes throughout the next two seasons.

Anna:        How did you break into singing?

Richie:       Well my full bio story can be read at: http://www.angelfire.com/ri/richierosati/ and then click on the link "for media use".....but to put it in summary, I come from a family of musicians, went to a music school in Philly, met a record producer while living in LA, frequented dance clubs with demos in hand, tortured every record label you could think of, and then one day after a long struggle (and I mean long), I finally got a song aired on a  commercial radio station. Then I got picked up by a label, and then more radio airplay followed.....but remember...I just put this all in a quick nutshell....There is absolutely no way to trace back every step I took in one interview you know?.....but lots of it is documented on that website above...

Anna:       I know what you mean.........You met Madonna in NYC? How was that?

Richie:      It was incredible. It was at the Royale Theatre back when she was doing the show "Speed The Plow". I met a guy named Daniel who was an artist that day at the theatre and he was there to show Madonna some art. He took me back to the backstage area and I met her. She was with her bodyguard Clay and it was just us four there talking. No entourage with her. I asked her if she could give me any advice in my career. She said to just be careful because "when your dreams come true, your worst nightmares do too"....That kind of always stuck in my mind.

Anna:       I guess it's always best to meet icons like that by mistake huh or through a friend of theirs huh?

Richie:     Yes....it was more of a relaxed atmosphere although I don't think Madonna was very happy at that      time in her life so I thank her for taking the time to stop and talk amongst all the hectic chaos    surrounding her life at that time (Divorce with Sean, being in a show I believe she didn't enjoy,                    etc.....) She seems like such a different person today....alot more happier....

Anna:      What are you currently working on?

Richie:     I am working on new songs,  label shopping, and yes of course going on auditions and doing screen tests for film and other tv projects.

Anna:     Why Freestyle Dance Music when you record? Does that limit your radio airplay chances?

Richie:    My music is actually Top 40 Dance....but some cuts are freestyle oriented. I think music itself doesn't limit you, but the way you present it is what can limit you. You have to become marketable so to speak to all audiences...in other words, when you release a single, try doing several remixes for the song in case one format fails. Music Directors love change.

Anna:     How are people in this business?

Richie:    Some are sincere, some are non-lifelikes. Is that a nice word for "asshole"?

Anna:     I'm sure.....

Richie:    What I mean is you have many "yes" people and then those you can absolutely never please. The trecherous people do not upset me because they mean absolutely nothing to me. The people who mean something to me and who will enhance and enrich my life are those that can tell me a product, show, or song of mine sucks when they think it sucks, is incredible when they think it's incredible, and when they have no comment they simply say so.......So many people in this biz make judgements on facts they don't have, people they've NEVER met, and material they've never even seen or heard. That's life I guess huh?

Anna:     That says it all.......Well Richie thank you kindly for taking this time to talk to me. I see your agent                      waiting in the wings and won't hold you up any longer......Where to next in this busy city?

Richie:    Oh we're going over to MTV for a callback interview for that show "The Real World"......I'm just curious crazy about that show and would really love to do it! We're meeting with a guy named Greg.
